Shortly before the opioid epidemic was making national headlines, Pythia International joined software designer MarkLogic to study how the firm’s enterprise database platform could help evaluate a new family of highly addictive drugs percolating in communities clustered throughout the Midwest.

MarkLogic’s cutting-edge suite of data analytics tools could ingest, integrate, and analyze vast sets of unstructured information. Pythia helped develop a strategy where government officials could use the company’s tools to merge critical data from local and state governments, hospitals, law enforcement, and pharmacies to identify the key drivers fueling the flow of drugs.

Pythia researched the lives of several Midwesterners from various walks of life who became addicted to opioids. Our creative team then crafted fact-based stories illustrating the impact of opioid addiction on local communities. Armed with these examples, MarkLogic could tell an authentic and vivid story to illustrate how its platform could help a wide range of stakeholders measure, evaluate, and develop strategies to counter the spread of what was quickly becoming a nationwide epidemic.
